Support

We would like to stress that Makom is only an information resource and not a support service. Unfortunately, we are not trained or equipped to provide the emotional and mental health support gay and lesbian students often need. For this reason, we will always direct people in need to professional services and report welfare concerns to the appropriate support systems.

If you are feeling alone and struggling, please connect to one of the following:

Eshel is dedicated to supporting and furthering opportunities for Orthodox LGBTQ+ people and their families. Their programming includes meet-ups and parent support groups across the US and Canada. www.eshelonline.org

JQY is an non-profit that provides emotional support and a large range of events for LGBTQ+ youth across the religious spectrum, between the ages of 13 and 20. www.jqyouth.org

Both Eshel and JQY have trained mental health professionals on staff and run warmlines which can be contacted at anytime. Please see their websites for more information.

Keshet UK's mission is to ensure that Jewish LGBT+ people and their families are included throughout Jewish life in the UK.  They offer education and training to help schools, youth organisations, synagogues, and wider community organisations to become more inclusive of LGBT+ people. https://www.keshetuk.org/
